About Future Leaders Outreach Network

Our mission: To provide adolescents and families with skills that empower them to set goals, become effective leaders, pursue economic well-being, and make healthy choices.

Dr. Diana E. Clemons founded Future Leaders Outreach Network (FLON) in 1996 and was incorporated in 1999 as a faith-based and community-based organization under the Kingsway Fellowship International (KFI). Program activities are implemented in the school, community and faith based organizations.

Our organization has gained a reputation for being the fastest growing grass-root organization implementing educational programs for adolescents, ages 10-21, their parents, caregivers and other adults.

At FLON we say it takes the entire F.A.M.I.L.Y. to raise a child. F.A.M.I.L.Y. is an acronym for Fathers all Adults and Mothers Involved in Leading Youth.  Families are the most fundamental institution of culture. One of most important functions of a parent or caregiver is being the first educator and the strongest advocate for a child.

Everyone working together to strengthen family bonds and help adults stay involved in children’s lives is vital for helping young people arrive at adulthood with the skills, interests and assets that are developed to their fullest potential necessary to lead healthy and productive lives.

While individual programs can provide youth development activities, the youth development approach works best when entire communities including young people are involved in creating a continuum of services and opportunities that youth need to grow into happy and healthy adults. Youth Development is not a highly sophisticated prescription for “fixing troubled kids.”

Rather, it is about people, programs, institutions and systems that provide all youth, troubled or not, with the supports and opportunities they need to empower themselves.

A positive youth development approach means to look at the bigger picture; it looks to strengthen existing services and programs and to expand opportunities and supports a community offers to young people so that they all can develop to their full potential. It challenges communities to take a new look at its resources and how they can be used to support young people.

To this end, FLON works closely with the all members of the F.A.M.I.L.Y. and community to ensure and increase the opportunities for youth.
